I was commissioned by John to build a chest for his talking skull “George” The skull was featured in his African movie and several of the Falcon movies and is over 60 years old.
I had the privilege of spending the day on the Magic Castle II when I delivered it. John and Tammy are two of the most gracious and hospitable people I have ever met in my 50 years in magic.
It was a most memorable day spent with a true gentleman of magic.
The chest is made of oak veneer with walnut, ebony and bass wood inlays and brass hardware. The interior is lined with black felt and secures “George” firmly to protect him from damage.
This checker cabinet is a replica of the original “Doc” Nixon Checker Cabinet built from original plans and manuscripts dated 1920. . This is an exciting effect where the checkers change places with the tall fish bowl.

MINGUS BLOOMING ORANGE TREE
This is a fully restored blooming orange tree made by Leroy Mingus somewhere between 1940 and 1969. Only 5 were made and this is the only one left. I am not showing the before pictures as that would expose the secret. The tree stands 7 feet high and blooms 12 oranges which can be passed out to the audience.
MARSHALL VANISHING ALARM CLOCK
This is a fully restored vanishing alarm clock manufactured by Marshall in 1950. It is fully functional and has original bell mechanism and foulard.
NEKKO OMARS PERFECT MYSTERYDOC NIXON
This piece was made by Doc Nixon between 1931, 1932. It was in pieces when we received it and the cradle was missing. It was reassembled, and a new cradle was made to restore to original configuration
OWENS
WHERE DO THE DUCKS GO
Photos show before and after. Piece had been painted over several times. Paint was removed in layers to uncover original graphics and color. It was stripped down to bare wood, all joints repaired and reinforced. After repairs it was refinished to original color and graphics.
I obtained this incredible piece from Paul Lembo. I watched him restore what should have been scrap metal and rotted wood over a period of several months. I became obsessed with the Orange Tree Illusion. After a year it was time to see if Paul would wheel and deal…though it wasn’t a cheap investment. Talking my wife into allowing me to spent that kind of cash of for what is a play toy to most people was the real magic!
One morning she came into the bedroom and said, go ahead…have fun! I called Paul and worked out the arrangements. I had actually seen this once in person at Paul’s incredible workshop. Obsession is probably an understatement!
A couple of weeks later the 18-wheeler pulled up and the crate unloaded into into The Trickery’s garage area. I ran for the crowbar and hammer! It took about 40 minutes to uncrate and then carry each piece into the house. To say I was like a little kid at Christmas time wouldn’t come close to the excitement coursing through my insides! I realize I need to get out more and that I’m like a small child at heart, but this was fun!
We assembled the historic illusion and read the instructions Paul provided several times before actually taking it for a test spin. The video above shows how this looks like real magic in person. Wow!
